Questions: 11-20

21. Why are you interested in this position?
“I think I fulfill the requirements and I will get adapted well to it.” You can add other factors that may influence: for example, if you live close to the company, if it represents a better position, if the company is bigger, etc.

22. Why would you like to do this type of job?
They will ask you this question only if the task to perform is very different from the one you do right now or the last one you have done. If so, prepare a positive answer.

23. In what specific aspects will our company be benefited if we hire you?
In Chapter 2, we talked about the added value a person can provide to the position. This is how you are expected to answer this question. The key, once again, is previous preparation.

24. How did you find out about the vacancy?
The answers can be different according to the case. If they haven’t asked you question 11 you can add why you are interested in that company or why you are interested in this position in particular.

25. What are your best qualities for the position?
Talk about any specific training or experience you have and that is convenient for this position.

26. Are you in an active job search? How do you manage the interviews?
“I try to schedule the interview during my lunch time or after my working hours”.
Remember, further than the interview in itself, that is you are in an active search and your employer doesn’t know it, they will notice it if you begin with the classical excuses the employees use: “I am going to the dentist/doctor/etc.”, my… is sick”, “my… died” and other similar ones. I recommend talking to your boss and explaining your situation to them. If this is not possible, ask your interviewers for midday schedules or the last hour of the afternoon, many of them will help you.

27. The position you are applying for right now is more important than the current one, do you think you are prepared for it?
“Yes, I have thought about the challenge and I think I am ready for it. I have trained myself to assume more responsibilities.”

28. The position you are applying for right now is a step backwards in your career, how do you see it?
“It is true that the company is smaller (or the position lower in level), but I take the job as a challenge and with a lot of enthusiasm.”

29. Tell me why we should consider you as the best candidate.
Think of the answer to this question in terms of you particular abilities and the way to apply them on the position to fill. Don’t ever be contemptuous about other people – whether you know them or not - just give good references about yourself.

30. Do you have any question?
Listen carefully during the whole interview and make question when you have the chance. This is not the time to ask about the salary or benefits. The appropriate questions here are about the company and the tasks of the position.
We will dedicate Chapter 14 to the questions you can pose to the interviewer.
