During the interview Sometimes, you won’t be able to get useful information about the company that would allow you to make a composition of the place previous to the interview. For those cases, we suggest the interactive method.
You won’t have the same personal brilliance, but your interlocutor doesn’t know it. In the interaction with your future boss during the interview, you will decide what problem you will solve for them if they offer you options. You will make the decision at that moment because it was impossible to get much information before the interview.
Presentation method If you can get enough information before the interview, then you can prepare a structured presentation. This method requires as much investigation as the interactive method, but it requires extra preparation because you should define a problem the manager needs to solve, before going to the interview.
Remember it is important:
Show that you understand the work to be done.
Show you can do the work.
Show you can benefit the company.
Your future boss should be convinced that you will be able to work together in a nice and productive way.
Solving a real problem Using an interactive presentation method allows the future boss to evaluate you better. It wouldn’t be strange that they would want to spend more time with you exploring your capacities and abilities.
If the interviewer goes back to the questions and answers format, you can use the “do the work” focus a little later in the interview. At some point, ask them to mention the most difficult problem they have at that moment at the company. “Let discuss a real problem. I would like to show how I could solve it. We will probably not solve it here and in this moment, but we will both find out how well we can work together.”
You should behave as an advisor, without going too far; act as if you were already working there. See chart “How to solve a real problem”.
So far, we have presented several ideas about the things you can say and do in order to communicate your ability to perform in the position. Since the requirements for the job vary and every interview is different, you should use certain criterion to determine the ideas to use and how to apply them.
Finally: Don’t waste your time trying to get the wrong position From time to time, you will have to face really difficult interviews. Even after making a previous investigation and preparing yourself on the best possible way, you can find a manager you are not interested in.
If you are in what we call the definite interview with your future boss and you can not describe the position with enough details so you can’t show how you will make it and if you can’t tell how your performance will be measured, our best advice is to let it go. You will find a better position in the future.
From the next chapter on, we will propose usual questions in work interviews and their possible answers. With this complete guide of questions, we suggest you to prepare yourself for the interview. This is the first step for you to get the job you are interested in.
